Nauru to undertake a peer review of its national development plan

Nauru is this week undertaking a peer review of its national development plan.

This follows the Cairns Compact on Strengthening Development Coordination in the Pacific signed off by Pacific Islands Forum leaders last year.

The Compact aims for more effective coordination of development resources with a focus on the Millennium Development Goals.

It requires Forum members to conduct peer reviews of their development plans.

This aims to promote international best practice in key sectors; to improve budgetting and to guide the support given by development partners.

The Secretary General of the Forum secretariat, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, says Nauru is the first to undergo this process and has chosen the Cook Islands, Tonga and the United Nations Development Programme to do it.
