The Kingston Flyer is ready to begin services again, after two years lying idle.
The steam train was put into the sidings after the company which owned the train and tracks went into receivership.
The mortgagee has been trying to sell the venture for the past two years and succeeded two months ago, selling the rolling stock and associated land to Blenheim investor David Bryce.
Mr Bryce intends to refurbish the cafe and bar at the Kingston station.
On Saturday, the Flyer will make several runs to Fairlight.
Manager Russell Glendinning says the trips are fully booked, with people coming from as far away as the North Island for the train's first run in two years.
He says the old train has passed all its certification tests.
