The drivers and a passenger of three boy racer cars have been charged with operating a vehicle in a race causing death and injury after a fatal crash near Napier in February.
Maree Schafer, who was aged 18, died in the crash.
Police allege the car she was a passenger in was racing when it crashed.
Three drivers and a passenger, aged from 17 to 20, have been charged.
One of the drivers was disqualified and another was a learner driver.
The charges include inciting a person to operate a vehicle in a race which has resulted in death or injury.
All those charged have been granted interim name suppression and bailed to appear in court again on 7 August.
