29 Fiji soldiers who pleaded guilty to a charge of mutiny for their role in the overthrow of the Chaudhry government during the May 2000 coup have been handed down prison sentences.
Radio Legend reports that the prison sentences imposed by the military court martial range from 7 years to two years.
In return for the guilty plea of the 29 to mutiny, further charges against them of misprision of treason and wrongful imprisonment of the Chaudhry government were dropped.
The court martial of another group of 29 soldiers who have pleaded NOT guilty to any of the charges is set to begin immediately.
