The Fiji Sun reports the new EU Commissioner for International Development and Cooperation, Neven Mimica, will sign the National Indicative Programme with the Fiji government.

Meanwhile, Fiji and the European Union have agreed to work together to tackle international challenges such as climate change at their first official meeting since the 2006 coup.

The first high level political dialogue under the EU-ACP partnership agreement since Fiji's return to democracy was held in Suva today.

The meeting was chaired by Fiji's prime minister Frank Bainimarama and Latvia's minister of foreign affairs, Edgars Rinkevics.

Mr Rinkevics says Fiji has carried out remarkable reforms since its return to democracy, including setting up its new parliament and ratifying the UN Convention Against Torture.

He says Fiji having a number of women in key political positions may serve as an example to the whole Pacific region.
