Higher risk not implied in change to LIM wording

13:25 pm on 2 December 2010

Dunedin City Council says a wording change for advice on Land Information Memoranda, to include liquefaction, should not affect people's ability to get property insurance.

The council says the change in wording reflects the public's awareness of liquefaction following the Canterbury earthquake.

City environment general manager Tony Avery says the change does not mean the risk has increased.

He says a number of insurance companies and lending institutions have said that insurers' view of the risk has not changed.
