New Zealand's world golf number one Lydia Ko says she intends had some good advice from other players on the LPGA Tour on how to cope with her elevation to the top spot.

The 17-year-old Ko said she had tried to let things sink in over the past few days where she has had congratulatory messages from singer Lorde and actor Don Cheadle.

Ko went to number one after her second-place finish in the opening event of the LPGA season, the Coates Golf Championship in Florida.

She says former world number one and 2013 British Open winner American Stacey Lewis has given her some sound advice.

"She said just concentrate on your game. You know it's pretty awesome to be there (ranked number one) and you're playing good golf and don't worry about everything else that goes on," Ko says.

"So it was really cool to have somebody like her tell me that kind of thing and it really went to my heart and I really want to thank her for saying that."
