Indie band and Brooke Fraser dominate music awards

Singer Brooke Fraser and Auckland indie band The Naked and Famous were the big winners at Thursday night's New Zealand music awards.

The awards were held in Auckland at the Vector Arena.

The Naked and Famous took out five awards including album of the year for Passive Me, Aggressive You and single of the year for Young Blood.

Brooke Fraser also won five awards including the international achievement award.

Her hit song Something in the Water and album Flags won the top-selling New Zealand single and album honours respectively.

Among the night's other winners were Tiki Taane for best male solo artist and Ladi6 for best female solo artist.

The New Zealand Herald Legacy Award went to rockers Dragon, best known for the 1977 hit April Sun in Cuba.

The band, which was formed in Auckland in 1972, is still touring.
