Right now the Foo Fighters are in Melbourne for a one-off show and they'll return in December for an Australasian tour that includes shows in Wellington and Auckland.

Smear says the band can't wait to come back to New Zealand.

"I have so many great memories of not just playing shows but just being a tourist and running around all over the place down there.

"Thank you for always opening us with open arms and being such a great home away from home for our band."

You can kind of do whatever you want when you're one of three guitarists in a band, Smear tells Charlotte Ryan.

"You can f*cking blow it and there's a nice guitar cushion to catch you - pretty much at all times," Shiflett adds.

Chris Shiflett's favourite guitarist: Mike Campbell from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

Pat Smear's favourite guitarists: Steve Howe from Yes and Steve Jones from The Sex Pistols
