The Solomon Islands pressure group, the Malaita Ma'asina Forum, has formed its own political party - the People's Progressive Party.
An official, Martin Housanau, says the People's Progressive Party will field candidates in this year's election but it cannot yet say how many.
He says the 14 Malaita constituencies will be a priority.
