Food Safety Minister Andrew Hoggard has appointed two new members to the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) Board.
Dr Meika Foster has a background in nutrition research and law, and founded Edible Research - a company which aims to turn scientific evidence into policy and practice.
Professor Lisa Houghton heads the nutrition department at University of Otago.
They take over from Teresa Ciprian and Dr Michael Dunbier, whose terms expired on 30 June.
The third board member representing New Zealand, Professor Palatasa Havea, remains in his role.
The changes follow the government's announcement on 5 August it would opt out of the FSANZ infant formula rules.
At the time, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said the government would work with FSANZ towards an amendment on infant formula, as the standard could have constrained New Zealand's ability to sell products internationally. Labour supported the move.
