Fire damages Auckland film studio

09:09 am on 31 July 2014

A blaze at a major west Auckland film studio is believed to have damaged set equipment and models for a Hollywood movie.

The fire started at Auckland Film Studios in suburban Henderson about midnight and at its height 18 appliances and about 60 firefighters worked to get it under control.

The blaze was in a workshop housing models and set equipment for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2 which features some of China's biggest stars. It did not affect the studio where filming was taking place.

Fire Service assistant commander John Booth said the fire was at one end of a large workshop and spread quickly through the ceiling. The fire is largely out but firefighters are using torches and hoses to find and douse hotspots.
