The Blues held on to beat the Wararatahs 12-10 in Sydney and clamber inside the top four on the Super Rugby Pacific standings.

In an unspectacular but even affair, tries either side of halftime to prop Ofa Tu'ungafasi and fullback Zarn Sullivan proved decisive for the New Zealand side, who made it three wins from four.

They sit among a group of four teams sharing that record, all nestled behind the unbeaten Hurricanes.

The Waratahs boast a 1-3 record but are left lamenting another narrow defeat, having suffered the same fate at home to the Highlanders a week earlier.

Cracking the Blues defensive line proved challenging for the hosts, who only achieved it when debut hooker Jay Fonokalafi crashed over off a drive in the 79th minute.

Tane Edmed converted from wide out to bring the Waratahs within two points but they couldn't produce anything from the final play of the game.
