Vanuatu considers mini budget, foreign police chief

The Vanuatu parliament, which is in the midst of an extra-ordinary session, is today expected to debate a supplementary budget to cope with the impacts of Cyclone Pam.

The session is also likely to consider offering the post of police commissioner to a foreigner.

Vanuatu has long had difficulty finding a suitable ni-Vanuatu able to draw the often fractious branches of the police together.

The Vanuatu Police Force is currently being run by an acting commissioner, after the former commissioner, Arthur Caulton, was dismissed.
