Vicelich comes out of retirement for rest of cup campaign

The All Whites defender Ivan Vicelich has committed himself to the rest of New Zealand's football world cup campaign.

Vicelich came out of international retirement earlier this year to play at the Confederations Cup in South Africa, when captain and Blackburn premiership player Ryan Nelson was ruled out through injury.

Vicelich who's played 69 times for New Zealand has now told Ricki Herbert he's available for the rest of the campaign, with the home and away playoff against either Saudi Arabia or Bahrain, the next assignment.

He was involved in the first three qualifiers in 2007 and says the decision was ultimately a straightforwards one as the side is just two games away from the world cup and an opportunity he couldn't ignore.

The All Whites face the winner of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia away in mid October with the home leg in Wellington the following month.

Meanwhile Herbert's also begun discussions with former Celtic and now Central Coast Mariners midfielder Michael McGlinchey and to Plymouth Argyle striker Rory Fallon about playing for New Zealand.

In June, FIFA relaxed rules that had previously made the pair ineligible for the All Whites because they represented Scotland and England respectively at age-group level.
