An NGO in the Northern Marianas is appealing for $US650,000 to house about 50 families living in desperate circumstances nearly two years after Typhoon Soudelor struck the territory.
Commonwealth Advocates for Recovery Efforts, or CARE, has already raised $US2.4 million to help more than 700 families, but its executive director Jenny Hegland said more was needed.
She said 48 families required assistance.
"Some families are still living in tents or in makeshift shacks. Some are living with other family members in overcrowded conditions. Some are living in portions of their homes. Some are staying with friends," said Ms Hegland.
"We have unfortunately had several circumstances where the family leaves their property things get stolen or vandalised. Not often do they want to leave their land."
