12:01 pm on 24 July 2018

Dunedin District Court was closed to the public this morning after police received a information of concern yesterday.

A security guard stationed on the door allowed Ministry of Justice employees, lawyers and media through, but turned away members of the public including those due to appear in court.

A police spokesperson said they received a report relating to information of concern made to an individual yesterday, and are making inquiries.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said access to the courthouse was restricted for a short period of time, but would not elaborate on the nature of yesterday's incident.

It is understood a threat was made to a court staff member.

Court services have now returned to normal.
