A child has drowned in an incident this morning at a Tauranga park.
Police said they were alerted to a drowning just before 10am at Memorial Park on the foreshore.
They said emergency services responded to the incident and a child was located unresponsive.
CPR was performed, but the child was unable to be revived.
Police said the child's family has requested privacy at this difficult time.
In a statement Tauranga City Council said fencing is in place at the Memorial Park fountain and will remain there until a blessing can be performed.
"Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the affected family," the statement said.
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
