A teenager in New Caledonia who was on a week-long leave from jail has been given another two-year prison sentence for trying to run over police officers.
Last week, the teenager was driving a vehicle he had stolen in Noumea through a police road block at La Tontouta.
According to the Nouvelles Caledoniennes, a police officer told the court that the driver was trying to kill them and prompted him to fire a shot at the fleeing car's wheels.
The paper said the car was eventually stopped at a road block in Canala on the main island's east coast.
There is concern in New Caledonia over the way police are being targetted.
It already has the highest incidence of armed attacks on the police of any part of France.
