The stoppage affecting schools in Papeete is in protest at planned pension reforms and part of a long-running campaign across France.

In French Polynesia, a warning has been issued by members of the French public service to strike again next month when the French overseas minister Annick Girardin is due for a visit.

Those in French Polynesia want the current system to be retained, which takes into account the benefits of having worked outside Europe.

They want the pension to still be calculated on the basis of the income of the last six months of work.
