The opposition in Solomon Islands has condemned the appointment of the Australian lawyer, Julian Moti, as the new Attorney General.
Members of the opposition are calling for Mr Moti to clear his name in Australia where he faces allegations of child sex charges before taking up his appointment.
The opposition says the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service acted improperly in lifting the suspension of Mr Moti's appointment.
His suspension was imposed by the Public Service Commission which the opposition says is the body to lift it.
The leader of the opposition, Fred Fono, says it's a national embarrassment.
"He needs to be cleared from the courts before he could be appointed so that those allegations are not hanging over him. The way our prime minister has handled the situation is as though he himself is a judge. It is a national embarrassment for Solomon Islands to appoint someone with such alleged child sex charges."
