The Breakers outscored the visitors in every quarter on Sunday in Auckland to get their first win over Melbourne this season.

American import Scotty Hopson had scored the bulk of the Breakers' points since returning to the side from injury, and although Hopson again lead the team in scoring with 22 points, he also had help from New Zealand international Finn Delany.

Delany had the most minutes of any Breakers player on court and during his 36 minutes he scored 14 points and brought down 10 rebounds.

Rob Loe also scored 14 points and Jarrad Weeks added 13 points.

The return of Sek Henry, who missed Friday night's win against the league-leading Sydney Kings in New Plymouth, boosted the Breakers but he had limited minutes coming off a calf injury.

Every member of the Breakers' game day roster got on court against Melbourne.

For the visitors, the former Breakers player Shawn Long lead his team in scoring with 18 points and Melbourne captain Chris Goulding contributed 13 points in their fourth loss in their last five games.

Sixty-eight points is the lowest total Melbourne has scored in the 2019/20 season.

Two wins from this round's double-header moved the Breakers closer to a playoff place.

The Breakers' next game is against the Perth Wildcats in Perth on January 25.
