Northland police are investigating after the death of a pedestrian hit by a car in Kaitaia last night.

He was taken to hospital but died overnight.
Police were called to Matthews Avenue about 6.20pm.
A 18-year-old woman has been charged with common assault over an earlier incident at the address involving the dead person.
She is due to appear in the Kaitaia District Court at a later date.
The serious crash unit has examined the scene.
Enquiries into the circumstances are continuing and the police would not rule out further charges.
