The second generation Major League Baseball star, 40-year-old Ken Griffey Jnr, has announced his retirement.
He departs ranked fifth on the all-time home run list with 630.
Only major league home record-holder Barry Bonds, whose achievement is marred by links to admitted steroid dealers, and legends Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays hit more career homers.
Griffey's father was a Cincinnati Reds star.
