Police launch homicide investigation after Auckland baby's death

The death of a baby in Auckland earlier this week has prompted police to launch a homicide investigation.

Counties Manukau CIB Detective Inspector Warrick Adkin said the baby was taken to the Watford Medical Centre in Ōtara on Monday 23 May with critical injuries.

"CPR was commenced, however, the baby was sadly pronounced dead. A homicide investigation is now underway in relation to the circumstances of the baby's death.

"Police are continuing to speak with residents of an Shifnal Drive, Randwick Park. Police's thoughts are with the baby's whānau. The family have requested privacy at this difficult time."
