Some summer temperatures have reached remarkable heights around the country since the beginning of the year, a weather forecaster says.
The National Insititute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa) principle scientist Chris Brandolino said Lake Tekapo has reached 4.1 degrees above the average January temperatures so far.
Christchurch is 3.9 degrees above average, followed by Hanmer and Napier at 3.7 degrees above average.
Kaikōura, Whakatane, Rangiora, Motueka, Nelson, Wairoa, Te Puke and Martinborough are all 3 degrees or more above January's average.
However, Mr Brandolino said it was a small sample size with 20 days to go so the average could still shift.
