The Black Ferns Sevens have won the Cape Town leg of the World Series after beating the United States 26-12 in the final.

It's the Black Ferns Sevens first tournament win this season after they were pipped by Australia in the final of the opening round in Dubai.

New Zealand beat China 40-10 and Japan 22-12 in pool play before thumping France 43-0 in the semi-finals.

In the final, the Black Ferns Sevens scored four tries to two with Jorja Miller, Jasmin Felix-Hotham, Kelsey Teneti and Dhys Faleafaga dotting down for New Zealand.

The Eagles gave the Black Ferns Sevens an early scare, but experience told as they pulled away in the second half.

Nia Tolliver raced clear to score her seventh Cape Town try as USA sprinted into a 12-0 lead in the opening three minutes of a dramatic, end-to-end showpiece match.

The Black Ferns Sevens fired back before the break, taking a two-point lead courtesy of scores from Player of the Final Miller and Felix-Hotham.

Teneti added a third midway through the second half to extend the Black Ferns Sevens' lead and Faleafaga then finished off a patient edge-to-edge attacking move to take the Olympic champions out of sight.

New Zealand women's captain Sarah Hirini said they were determined not to lose two title matches in a row.

"I'm so happy. We were pretty disappointed with last weekend but I'm absolutely stoked here. We're going home with goodies for Christmas! I'm very proud of our group, with three debutants in there."

"Look at all the All Black jerseys, all the Black Ferns Sevens jerseys in the stadium. We love Cape Town, we love South Africa and they always turn out for us."

The Black Ferns Sevens now lead the women's standings after two rounds on 38 points, four points clear of Australia, who finished fourth in Cape Town.

The All Blacks Sevens finished sixth in Cape Town after failing to reach the semi-finals.

The New Zealand men beat the US 19-17 before losing to France 47-15 in pool play. Only the top team from each three team pool reached the semi-finals.

The All Blacks Sevens beat Great Britain 21-17 in the fifth place semi-finals before going down 17-12 to Argentina in the fifth place playoff.

The series now takes a break over Christmas.
