The acting vice chancellor of the University of Papua New Guinea Nicholas Mann says students must return to class this week or their first semester will become unviable.

Dr Mann said for the sake of their own future they must return to class.

He said the semester would become unviable after June 25.

Students had been asked to return to classes a week ago after police shot and wounded a number of protesting students at the Waigani campus.

All state university chancellors and vice chancellors met with the chief secretary of the Prime Minister's Office, Isaac Lupari, in Port Moresby on Tuesday.
