428 new Covid-19 cases in Victoria, three more deaths

There are 428 new cases in Victoria.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said there had been three deaths since yesterday.

Those who died were a man in his 80s, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 80s.

"I can offer no further information about those three tragedies, but we send our best wishes and our thoughts and prayers to their families, this will be a particularly challenging and very, very sad time for them," he said.

Of the new cases reported today, 57 of those are connected to known outbreaks, one is from quarantine and 370 are under investigation.

Meanwhile, New South Wales is bringing back some restrictions on group gatherings, to try to mitigate an uptick in new Covid-19 infections.

The state recorded another eight cases today, and there are 42 cases linked to the outbreak at a pub in southwest Sydney.

The premier, Gladys Berejiklian, says group bookings at restaurants and clubs will go down to 10, and weddings will be capped at 150 people.
