One person has been seriously injured in a chemical spill near Dunedin.
Emergency services were called to Dukes Road in Mosgiel shortly after midday on Monday.
Fire and Emergency said hydrogen sulfide had spilled from a truck, but it was unclear what led to the spill.
The compound is toxic to humans and also corrosive and flammable.
St John said one person had been taken to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition, after initially being listed as critical.
Emergency services remain at the scene.
WorkSafe has begun an investigation into how the person was injured.
