The 700m by 200m blaze has taken hold in trees off Ashworth Bush Road, just north of Rangiora.

Fire and Emergency was alerted about 11.30pm last night. Crews have since been battling the fire.

Ten fire trucks were there with over 20 crews, and a helicopter with a monsoon bucket was on route this morning.

Fire and Emergency said there was no current indication on how the fire started.
