There have been outbreaks in the Philippines, Palau, and most recently Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia.

The Commonwealth Health Care Corporation said during the current rainy season, mosquito populations are likely to increase.

It said people should wear long sleeves and trousers when possible, particularly at dawn and dusk when mosquitos are most active.

The corporation is also advising people to make sure windows and doors have well-fitting screens with no gaps, and to use approved mosquito repellents.

People are also urged to empty standing water from around their homes and workplaces and to cover water sources.
