The head of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat Dame Meg Taylor has called for greater commitment from member countries to collectively solve problems and help the Pacific reach its potential.
The Secretary General of the key regional grouping was speaking at a seminar at New Zealand's Victoria University
Dame Meg says the unprecedented interest in the Pacific and a complex array of regional bodies makes it all the more important for the Forum to embrace a deeper form of regionalism.
"It's about really getting our heads around what are those regional threads and deep political commitment to it. But not just from the politicans or from the leaders of the country, but from the citizens, so that we hold our leadership accountable too."
Dame Meg says there are plenty of opportunities for a deeper regional approach to education, business and managing the region's resources.
