The Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O'Neill has launched a $US145 million power project for the Highlands region which is funded by China.
The Post Courier reported Mr O'Neill and the Chinese Ambassador, Xue Bing, had cut the ribbon to launch the project for transmission lines and substations in the region.
A loan from the Exim Bank of China is helping fund the construction of 189 kilometres of transmission lines and four sub-stations from Mount Hagen to Tari in Hela Province.
An engineering and procurement contract has been signed by China's major electricity company, TBEA and KCHL/PNG Power.
