Leaked documents suggest that in 2006, the then Fiji president tacitly approved the military coup and that it was the Labour leader Mahendra Chaudhry who was tipped to become the prime minister.
The information is contained a long letter which the Fiji police commissioner Andrew Hughes sent to his New Zealand counterpart Howard Broad in late November 2006.
In October 2006, he also wrote that he feared that the constitution would be abrogated and military rule enacted.
The documents became available on Mr Hughes's death in August.
Walter Zweifel has looked at them and Don Wiseman asked him why Mr Hughes wrote to Mr Broad.
