Police release names of victims killed in Taupō crash

Police have released the names of two people who died in a crash near Taupō last week.

They were Jeannine Ball, 51, of Rotorua and Lynda Ball, 76, of Taupō.

They died following a two-vehicle crash on Broadlands Road on 5 January.

One other person was critically injured in the crash.

In a statement, police said their thoughts with with their family and loved ones.

"The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation."

On Monday, police said they wanted to speak to people who may have "crucial" information about the crash.

Senior Sergeant Jason Henderson said the investigation had shown that one of the vehicles involved was travelling in a line with a number of other vehicles.

"The drivers or occupants of those vehicles may not have been aware of the collision but may have crucial information that could assist police," he said.

"So far we have spoken with the occupant of one of the vehicles and would like to hear from the others in the line of traffic, or anyone who was travelling on Broadlands Road, near White Road and the PermaPine timber mill, about this time."

Henderson said if motorists were unfamiliar with the area, it had a number of distinctive signs, such as for Landcorp and Wairakei Estate.
