Armed police set up a cordon around part of Christchurch Hospital after reports of a person with a firearm.
The person was said to be in the Outpatients Building at about 10.30am.
Police did not find a gun, but officers took one person in to custody.
Christchurch Hospital has told people to attend appointment as planned following the armed police callout.
Canterbury DHB chief executive Peter Bramley said the incident had been resolved and roadblocks were no longer in place.
