Otago windfarm moves closer to reality

12:46 pm on 30 October 2015

A seven giga-watt windfarm is closer to becoming a reality for the Otago settlement of Blueskin Bay, near Dunedin.

The trust behind the Blueskin Energy Project is about to make a public notification for resource consent, which could happen as soon as next week.

Project manager Scott Willis said he believed such projects would serve the community, despite a lack of central government support.

"It's quite stark that we seem to be focused on increasing our emissions, with public money, at a time when we have enormous wealth and renewable capability and potential and we're not providing any support for it."
