Solomon Islands' foreign minister has defended his government's switch of diplomatic ties to China, saying it gives the country new leverage with traditional partners.
In September, the Solomons changed allegiance from long-term ally Taiwan to China.
In a speech to Parliament, Jeremiah Manele said the country made the right decision in joining 121 countries in recognising Beijing over Taiwan.
Mr Manele said it would complement existing relations, but also give it leverage with its traditional partners, including Australia and New Zealand, the Solomon Star reports.
