A road worker has been threatened with a gun on State Highway 1 near Atiamuri, police say.
Bay of Plenty police were called to the scene about 10.40am on Sunday.
They said someone in a vehicle pointed a gun at a worker before fleeing.
No-one was injured and no shots were fired, though the worker was left shaken by what happened.
Police are looking for a red double-cab flat-deck Toyota Hilux, which they said left the scene towards Ohakuri Road.
They are asking any witnesses or anyone with information to call them.
