A new web series documenting Cook Islands Maori traditional knowledge and the importance of indigenous culture for future generations has won a Pacific Youth Leadership grant.
Cook Island's Paruru Productions was pleased to get funding to help with their project titled Documenting Traditional Knowledge through Digital Media.
Liam Kokaua said they had completed work on the series trailer, called Aorangi, and want to release it this year.
However Mr Kokaua said they were still looking for a platform to share the series on, and more support was welcome, especially from New Zealanders.
"We are aiming for five short 10-15 minute films which actually look at different eco-systems and kind of split up the Cook Islands Aorangi into different sections and traditional knowledge associated with these different areas, not just document them but to also encourage our youth to find out more about these traditions and to practise them as well."
Mr Kokaua presented the project with Joshua Baker at the US funding grant in Auckland.
