High winds helped spread the flames across a large bank on Tuckers Beach Rd, next to the Shotover River about 6.30am this morning.

Light rain helped the firefighters get the fire under control by 7.30am.

The high winds also brought down a large tree on Centenial Avenue in Arrowtown, blocking the road.

Firefighters have cleared that scene.
