A new centre to support women and children affected by violence in Kiribati looks set to open early next year.

The Kiribati Women and Children Support centre recruited Teretia Tokam in June this year to be the support centre's first co-ordinator.
According to a study conducted in 2010 by the Kiribati Family Health Association, the country has one of the Pacific region's highest prevalence rates of domestic violence.
The Australia-based Pacific Women Shaping Pacific Development initiative has funded the centre worth around $US160,000.
