The Australia rugby league prop, Ben Hannant, has gained an early release from his Canterbury Bulldogs contract to re-join the Brisbane Broncos.

Hannant was signed to the Bulldogs until the end of the 2011 season, but was granted an early release on compassionate grounds.

Hannant says he was desperate to return to Queensland for family reasons, and has signed a four-year deal with the his former club.

It'll be Hannant's third stint at the Broncos, having started at the Brisbane club as a junior before moving to the Sydney Roosters in 2005, and returned in 2006, playing until he signed with the Bulldogs in 2009.

The 25-year-old is currently recovering from a knee injury, and hopes to return to the field in the next two weeks to push for a spot in the Queensland team for State of Origin game 2 next month.
