Christchurch restaurants will be trying a new way to attract customers over winter, and there are no tables or chairs.

The new food ordering service Tiny Door will launch in the central city in July.

The concept is like a click and collect restaurant, except different restaurants will share the kitchen on a rostered basis, and all collections are at the same place through the same small front door in the wall.

The idea is a new approach in the fight by restaurants to combat fading interest in dining out.

Tiny Door co-founder Ally Kulpe said the quirky idea offered a new fun way for restaurants to engage with customers.

"Restaurants can book a slot within our Tiny Door facility, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner, and then they come in and provide their food offering.

"It's a really cool way to give the hospitality producers of Christchurch an opportunity, and give people in Christchurch a cool experience with different food offerings," she said.

Kulpe said people would be able to order online or direct from the site, which would be a kitchen hidden behind a tiny door.

There would be three different food partners at the site every day for breakfast lunch and dinner, and a chef inside would hand diners the meals through the tiny door.

"It's about having quality food in the grab-and-go setting," she said.

Kulpe said if the Tiny Door idea was successful in the city it would be taken to the rest of the country.
