Key's ministerial car sold

17:07 pm on 3 December 2011

The ministerial BMW that chauffeured the Prime Minister around the country for the last three years, has been sold for $65,400 at an auction in Auckland.

The 2008 BMW 730 LD was one of five ministerial BMW's that went under the hammer on Saturday, all fetching upwards of $55,000.

Turners Car Auctions says John Key's car went for $7000 more than the other vehicles.

Auckland Branch Manager Scott Dobbie says the auction for the Prime Minister's car was the highlight of the auction.

He says there was some spirited bidding with four different groups and a couple of bids coming in online as well.

Mr Dobbie says the buyer denied he bought the car because it had belonged to the Prime Minister, but he hadn't bid on any of the other cars.

He says the Prime Minister didn't leave anything in the car for the new owner, and it was not autographed.
