Police are appealing for information after a teenage girl was followed by a man while she walked along Te Mata Road.
The teenager was walking down the road at around 2.45pm on Monday 18 April when a man in a blue car drove slowly behind her.
"The car eventually went past her, before parking ahead of her outside the hedged area of Hereworth School, in between the roundabouts of Simla Ave and Guthrie Road," Detective Sergeant Heath Jones said.
"The driver got out of his vehicle and ran at the girl, who quickly crossed the road at the Simla Ave roundabout."
The girl was able to get away from the man who went back to his car and continued to drive along Te Mata Road, towards the town centre, Jones said.
The man is described as Caucasian, in his 20s or 30s, with long blonde hair and a beanie. He had a dog in the car at the time.
Police say a number of other cars where on the road at the time and they would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or the man's car.
