The 29-year-old man was in court on 11 charges related to his violent behaviour in jail this year.

He was given another eight-month sentence for assaulting corrections staff, making death threats to the prison administration and destroying the furniture in his cell.

Reports say in court the inmate refused to recognise the judges' authority and declined to answer questions.

The man, who has had 20 convictions, has been classified as the highest risk to security.
