A special decade champion event, celebrating New Zealand's sporting achievements from the past 10 years, was due to be held in Auckland on Thursday.
But due to Auckland being under alert level 3 restrictions until at least midnight Wednesday the Foundation is unable to hold the ceremony.
"We continue to work with our broadcast partner Sky Sport on reshaping the televised awards ceremony which will now take place at a later date, so that we can announce and honour the decade champions," the Halberg Foundation said in a statement.
"While we are disappointed, we are unable to hold the live event, we support any decisions that protect the health and safety of all New Zealanders."
Rowing New Zealand unable to start national champs
The New Zealand Rowing Championships are on hold as a result of Covid restrictions.

The regatta was due to start at Lake Ruataniwha in Twizel tomorrow, but now can't get underway until Thursday at the earliest.
That is because Alert Level 2 restrictions prevent events from being held where 100 or more people are together in one place at one time.
Rowing New Zealand says racing won't take place on Tuesday or Wednesday this week and at best will proceed as a three-day regatta only.
The Meridian Rowing Centre at Lake Ruataniwha, Twizel remains closed until further notice and no lake access will be permitted including access to the boat park and on-water training.
Rowing NZ will make a further announcement after the Government's next Covid update.
Injury setback for the Highlanders
The Highlanders fear Jermaine Ainsley's first Super Rugby season in Dunedin may be over before it's even begun.

The three-test Wallabies prop suffered an ankle injury ahead of their pre-season game against the Crusaders in Temuka.
Highlanders assistant coach Clarke Dermody says Ainsley requires surgery and is likely to be sidelined for months.
"He was outstanding in the pre-season, looking really good so it's unfortunate it's happened."
Ainsley, the son of former All Blacks prop Joe McDonnell, signed with the Highlanders after three seasons with the Melbourne Rebels.
He was born in the Central Otago town of Clyde and attended Otago Boys' High School.
Venus exits in the third round of the men's doubles
New Zealand tennis player Michael Venus has bowed out of the Australian Open.

Venus and his Australian partner John Peers have been beaten 7-6, 7-6 by defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury in the third round of the men's doubles.
The American/British combination will now face New Zealand's Marcus Daniell and his Austrian partner Philipp Oswald in the quarterfinals.
Venus and Peers will now part ways for at least for the next couple of months with the New Zealander to return home to quarantine and then be with his wife, who is due with the couple's second child in April.
It is unclear when Venus will resume his season but is likely to be on Europe's clay courts.
Changes to New Zealand Cricket board
Former New Zealand Rugby CEO Steve Tew is joining New Zealand Cricket.

Tew has been appointed to the position as board observer at NZC.
He was the chief executive of NZ Rugby from 2008 to 2019, having served as deputy CEO for the six years prior.
New Zealand Cricket has also announced that former Black Caps batsman Roger Twose has been co-opted as a director to replace Greg Barclay.
Barclay was required to step down from the NZC board after being elected chair of the International Cricket Council.
Twose played over 100 games for New Zealand and represented Central Districts, Northern Districts and Wellington.
He is also a past chair of the NZ Cricket Players Association and has served on NZC's high performance advisory group for the last 10 months.
Manchester City have breathing room atop Premier League
Manchester United could only draw 1-1 at struggling West Bromwich Albion, leaving them second in the Premier League but seven points adrift of Manchester City.

West Brom, who need a remarkable turnaround to avoid relegation, stunned their visitors with a second-minute goal from on-loan Senegalese striker Mbaye Diagne who beat defender Victor Lindelof to head home.
United looked out-of-sorts for the rest of the half, but their inspirational Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes stepped up yet again in the 44th minute with a spectacular volley from near the penalty spot.
The result leaves West Brom second bottom of the table, 12 points from safety, with manager Sam Allardyce so far failing to ignite their season despite his reputation for great escapes.
Everton's missed a chance to draw level on points with Merseyside rivals Liverpool after losing 2-0 to lowly Fulham, while Arsenal's beaten Leeds United 4-2 to climb into the top half of the ladder.
Earlier, Wolverhampton Wanderers won 2-1 at Southampton.

West Indies edge thriller to sweep series against Bangladesh
A second-string West Indies team under stand-in captain Kraigg Brathwaite completed a 2-0 series sweep against Bangladesh with a dramatic 17-run win in the second test in Dhaka.

Chasing 231 for victory, Bangladesh came close before being bowled out for 213 with the spin trio of Rahkeem Cornwall (4-105), Brathwaite (3-25) and Jomel Warrican (3-47) claiming all 10 wickets.
Opener Tamim Iqbal top-scored for the hosts with a breezy 50 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz made 31 down the order but Bangladesh fell short.
West Indies had pulled off the fifth-highest successful run chase in test history with their three-wicket win in the series opener in Chattogram.
Brathwaite led a weakened squad to Bangladesh after several players, including test captain Jason Holder, opted out of the tour citing COVID-19 concerns.
