The Fire Service has been busy in Central Otago and South Canterbury today with three large fires in the space of three hours.
The first call-out was at about 3.30pm. Four fire trucks spent three hours extinguishing a blaze at a large honey processing building on Manuherikia Road, north of Alexandra.
The building has been extensively damaged.
A short time later, the Fire Service was alerted to a large grass fire on Maori Point Road in Tarras.
Spokesperson Andrew Norris said that fire, which spread across eight hectares, threatened two houses and forced campers to move to safety.
He said eight trucks were sent and while it had now been put out, firefighters remained at the scene.
In South Canterbury, just before 6pm, eight trucks were also needed to tackle a large farm shed which was well ablaze, just outside Geraldine.
No one was injured in any of the fires.
